San Antonio, TX—Allen & Allen Company, based here, is a privately owned and operated Hardwood lumber supplier. The company’s product mix includes (but is not limited to): Hardwoods, Hardwood plywood, softwoods, treated lumber, custom moulding and trim, stair parts, windows and doors, builder’s hardware, decorative hardware, commercial hardware, plumbing and plumbing accessories. Hardwood species available include: Alder, Maple, Red and White Oak, Basswood and Poplar.

Through the years, the company has made a commitment to its customers to sell the best possible products available, which has remained a top business priority.

“We consolidated our Northside Decorative Showroom this year and consolidated the showroom back to its original location at 202 Culebra Avenue, creating a one-stop Building and Design Center,” company President Bobby Joe ‘Buzz’ Miller said. “At this point in time, all operations are back under one roof. The manufacturing component as well as the sales and business components can now all be found at this location.”

Each year the company buys approximately 4.5 million board feet of Hardwoods and softwoods.

Since 1931, Allen & Allen Company has provided quality products and superior service to construction and design professionals as well as ‘do-it-yourself’ endusers. The company boasts comprehensive inventories, spacious selection centers and a knowledgeable staff. “We have a business strategy here that we’ve adopted since the very beginning. We are a company that specializes in quality. Our forte is quality lumber, hardware, plumbing and window products.”
Miller said specific attention is placed on specialty and hard-to-find items. “For hard to find building items, and the best choices on the most contemporary products, we are the ones to see. We stock rare softwoods – the kind that most yards don’t want to invest inventory dollars in.”

Allen & Allen Company’s reputation for high-quality products dates back to 1931, when the company was founded by H.B. Allen, who later passed it on to his son, Lynn Allen, hence the name Allen & Allen Company. The latter then sold it to Pat Knight, who was the owner and president for 18 years. After Knight’s untimely passing in October of 1999, the business was left to his family. The family still proudly owns and operates the firm, carrying the legacy of Knight and the Allen family.

The company consolidated its Northside Decorative Showroom this year and consolidated the showroom back to its original location at 202 Culebra Avenue, creating a one-stop Building and Design Center.

Miller, who oversees the activities of 70 employees, said that about $2.5 million in inventory is stored at a lumberyard situated on a two-acre site. In addition to the large supply of inventory, another significant part of the Allen & Allen Company lumberyard is its large manufacturing facility, which handles moulding, millwork and grinding knives used for restoration and custom projects. Mill equipment includes Weinig moulders, a Mereen-Johnson straight-line rip and a Newman Whitney planer.

To get its products to customers Allen & Allen Company relies on its own fleet of trucks. All lumber orders are delivered in a timely manner. The same attention and detail is paid to all orders – large or small, according to Miller.

Over the years, that flexibility has led Allen & Allen to a number of high profile projects like Six Flags Fiesta Texas, Sea World of San Antonio and the Hyatt Hill Country Resort. They have also done many different roller coaster jobs including ones in Seattle, WA, and one in Madrid, Spain. By establishing relationships with contractors who bid on such projects, the company has opened opportunities for itself. After a few of those high-profile projects graced its list of accomplishments, more followed.

Along with Miller, key personnel for Allen & Allen Company include: Chief Operating Officer Wayde Payne; Executive Vice President Carlos ‘Coddy’ Pena; Director of Inventory Management Michael McGinnis; Director of Information Technology Josh Davis; Director of Marketing Christina Martin; Credit Manager Bertha Cronk; Dispatcher Charlie Herrera; and most recently hired Mill Manager Sean Tate.

About $2.5 million in inventory is stored at a lumberyard situated on a two-acre site.

Allen & Allen Company’s industry associations include memberships in the National Hardwood Lumber Association, the Lumbermen’s Association of Texas and Louisiana, The Associated General Contractors of America, the Associated Builders and Contractors and the National Association of Home Builders.
